*welcome to the we are the mastersons blog*

hi! welcome to the WE ARE THE MASTERSONS photography blog. we are trish and brian... a husband and wife photography team living in dublin, ireland. what you have here is a never-ending mixtape of our life through photos: both professional work as well as more personal shots, mixed in with some rants, raves and various other randomness. hopefully this site will give you an idea of what we are about: so feel free to throw on the kettle, kick off your shoes and have a look around. if you happen to get lost, there's always the handy navigation bar at the top.

If you're looking for our online portfolios, you can find our wedding site here and our portrait site here.

KENNEDY WEDDING DAY + 40 YEARS
so you didn't choose us to photograph your original BIG DAY back in 1970. that's okay. we forgive you (sob!). after all, we weren't even born at the time. but thanks for choosing us to shoot the 40th Anniversary party - and thanks for the mexican cake! ;)

CLARE + LAURA
our great and embarrassingly talented friends Clare Grennan and Laura Caffrey - who run the increasingly eclectic IRISH DESIGN SHOP on Bow Lane - asked us to take some shots at the shop for its upcoming First Birthday. never shy of hitching our wagon to a sure thing, and seduced by their offer of cake, we're making a bold prediction: if there's any justice in the world, this time next year they'll both be millionaires. hopefully.

THE FREELANCE WHALES
i know, i know. we've talked about them before. and then i stumbled upon this clip on youtube of the very evening that we came across these guys in Bedford subway station in Brooklyn. that must be worth a re-blog, right? Loving their work....    :)

CHRISTMAS 2009
it's as if it never happened. Christmas 2009. The snow. The ice. Falling embarrassingly on my ass on the way to the bus stop. And of course the Christmas dinner. Obviously paid way over the odds for crackers this year because instead of the usual strangeness, this time we ended up with some quite cool surprises - including a quite funky Santa + Rudolph jigsaw. Thankfully, the jokes were still satisfyingly awful.

CIARA + BARRY
we had the pleasure of photographing our first wedding in roscommon a couple of weeks ago. it can be embarrassingly easy to be a wedding photographer when you find a bride and groom who look as great in front of the camera as ciara+barry did. we had to dodge the odd rainshower, but the whole day from start to finish was as relaxed and beautiful as anyone could wish for

MEET THE WHELANS
this weekend we got to hang out with the Whelan family for the chance to work on their christmas portraits. okay, maybe not "christmas portraits" - there was no holly, mistletoe or reindeer involved - but more like portraits taken in time for christmas. a box of roses + very definite bribery + five great kids = one large sockful of great shots

ROAD TRIP USA
...1500 miles, a full tank of gas, half a box of donuts, dark, and we were wearing sunglasses. if it's autumn then it must be holiday time. This year we were lucky enough to head to the north eastern united states for a few weeks. think of it as our little investigation into the world economic crisis - except with slightly less accountancy and slightly more sunshine.  We came across some great music in the strangest of places: Selbyville in a cafĂ© in Maine; The Money Jungle in a bar in Vermont; and our last photo shows the Freelance Whales that we listened to in a subway station in Brooklyn. You can check them out on iTunes, minus the rumbling sounds of passing trains.
